Grandma calls it "iso"

This weekend I have redefined "staycation." After treatment with radioactive iodine for Graves Disease (a hyperthyroid condition), I am considered low-level radioactive. Enough to say that I should not be within four feet of other people for more than one minute per day, and definitely not within four feet of children under age 16 and pregnant women. So, lucky for me, I got to miss my last biochem lecture of the term this morning. The upcoming week involves orgo lab on Tuesday, biochem final on Saturday, and another anatomy midterm the following Monday, and flying home that Tuesday for Thanksgiving. With all the upcoming work, you'd think I'd be getting something done, right? Well, ok, I finished and submitted the course assignment (number two of two) for biochem (due this morning at 9:05am) yesterday afternoon, but since then I've been watching all the TV that has been backed up on my DVR (to the extent that it had to delete the old programs that I'd saved on it, including the last episode and retrospective of ER). Then today I re-watched the first two episodes of Grey's Anatomy, season one.

OK, so I did in fact study a little for anatomy, which I don't think will be as bad as the first exam. The plan is to write up my lab for Tuesday tomorrow, then get cracking for the exams. Wa-hoo.

OMG it's 2009

I find it pathetic that I've had a total of six posts so far (this being the seventh), and the last one was on Christmas Day 2008. I suppose I've thought about writing, and have had ideas, but haven't printed any as of late. Some recent ideas:

1. Strangers
Every now and then we have days when a random stranger asks for something - directions, assistance, etc. I had a strange day a little while ago where this happened twice in the span of a few hours. The latter stranger was as most people in similar situations are - her English wasn't very good, but she was trying to ask me where the nearest post office was. I pointed her in the right direction, although I couldn't remember exactly where it was in relation to where we were standing, but she was extremely grateful for my input into the matter and was very polite and nice to me. Generally, I follow the same rule that when asking random strangers for help, one should be as polite as possible; after all, they are not obligated to help and are doing so out of their own kindness. Now as far as the first stranger I encountered: I was walking down the street when I noticed an elderly woman in a wheelchair, which was blocking the sidewalk. As the person some distance ahead of me walked around her, I noticed and thought perhaps she was waiting for someone. As I got near and started to walk around her, she asked me if I would push her. I said sure, since I was going the same direction, and constantly assured her that I volunteer in a hospital where I wheel people to and fro rather frequently. Now, I knew that this would not be a smooth ride for her, and it wasn't, due to the uneven brick sidewalk and the poor quality of her chair. She asked me to be careful of the bumps, and I was - overly so - but she was perhaps to date the most rude person I have ever met. Surely, if I am taking what seemed to be an eternity to push her to where she needed to go, while on my way to do things of my own, she could understand that I was just being kind and trying to help. And while I do understand that it takes a lot of courage for an elderly woman to ask help from a random student passing by, it is still common courtesy to be polite to those who help you.

2: FML
I've recently become addicted to FMyLife.com. Just as when facebook introduced the status updates and I began thinking my life as "Stephanie is...", I am now similarly thinking my life as "Today, ...". However, on most days, this ends with "...actually, life is pretty sweet". So, I'm content.

Today, my first subject for the EEG study canceled, so I didn't have to be at work until 2. I had breakfast with Pablo and his parents, then went to study for the exam I had later in the day. Things went pretty smoothly, then I went home and am now attempting to set up my new phone while writing in my blog. Actually, life is pretty sweet.

It's been a while

It's been a while, dear friend. Since my last post, let's see what has happened in the nimble world of Steph:

My last post was two days before Thanksgiving. The next day, I flew from Boston to Philadelphia to see my problems. Whoops...family. What I meant was, I got to the airport and had no problems getting to Philly. I even got an earlier flight! (For only a fee of $50...?) Anyway, got a haircut, spent the day with my mom, had dinner with my parents and family friends, set up the Christmas tree with my dad and my friend Lise. The next morning, I awoke to find that the cats had knocked down (and thus effectively broke) my favorite ornament resembling a VW Beatle that Bert gave to me when I was really young - maybe 5 or 6 years old. Ke sera sera, spent the early afternoon with Jamie and Courtney downtown, to learn just how little stuff was left in my old apartment (it'd all been moved next door, aside from my furniture). Headed over to Yaya's, where there was a plethora of food foor what turned out to be some forty people, half of whom are vegan, yet somehow there were some 35 lbs of turkey...

Spent Friday morning at the oral surgeon, planning to have my wisdom teeth wisely removed. Then met up with Lise and Eli for lunch, and later had dinner with my parents and Bert. Then went to Yaya's to hang out with people, and Kibby (cousin) was in for the night. Brunch Saturday with Yaya, Irma, the parents, and Kibby, then went back in town and spent the day with Yaya. Woke up early Sunday morning to sing Church, then had lunch with Josh and Mike before Josh and I headed to Alan's suprise 40th birthday party (the birthday was a surpise, not the party - wait, scratch that. I meant it the other way around). LONG (yet fantabulous) party, and awoke even earlier the next morning to come back to Boston.

It was then that I learned I should not fly between Philadelphia and Boston.

Going home was just fine. However, there were no direct flights from Philly back to Boston, but instead they all flew through LaGuardia. Which, by the way, had too much airport traffic when my flight was due to take off, thus we were grounded for an hour. Not only did I miss my connecting flight, but also the original flight I was supposed to take from LaGuardia to Boston had been canceled, and thus everyone was on my new flight (thankfully I'd already called to cancel the doctor's appointment I had that afternoon). Apparently US Air has some issues with calculating mass distribution, as these calculations and the paperwork associated with them grounded our flight yet another hour.

FINALLY got back to Boston, had a lovely reunion with my shower, followed by a lovely reunion with my greatly-missed boyfriend, and then headed for six hours of a not-so-lovely reunion with physics and bio labs, back to back.

Follwed then this week by midterms. Two. Bio later today, and physics tomorrow. I also just turned in the lab that's due on Wednesday, although there's another due next week.

Am terribly excited for Thursday evening, when we head back down to Philly (via train) for the annual Curtis holiday party, returning Saturday, just in time to meet Pablo's parents back up in Cambridge. Then return back to Philly the following weekend for Sparklefest Break. Then return for more labs, more class, and finals. A whole weekend off, and it's the end of January and the spring semeseter has begun.

Rainy Day

And thus another rainy day is in progress. After this morning's trip to the dentist, nothing in particular happened at the Lab for Developmental Studies (LDS in my book still stands for Latter Day Saints). Scheduled all my home repairs finally, and got to talk to Josh H about the study and our most recent results. Hopefully we'll be moving to ERP soon - I'm psyched! ...ermh...no pun intended.

And thus after meeting with Josh, I went to the "cafe" in the basement to prepare for my one schedule subject for the day, who never showed. I say "cafe" because I'm told that back in the day there used to be a proper cafe there with food and drinks and staff...Now there are just tables and chairs with a lone coin-operated coffee machine, and if you go out and around the corner you will find a nice assortment of vending machines for all your non-perishable fatty carbohydrate needs.

And thus I went home, changed out of my wet shoes and socks, and replaced them with dry socks and my whaley whalies (my rain boots, aka "whalies", have whales on them). Ran off to another appointment, after which I stopped at The Harvard Shop for a new umbrella and hat, then a snack at Au Bon Pain (for all my fatty carbohydrate needs).

And thus I went to the BGLTSA Resource Center (henceforth the "RC", not to be confused with Roman Catholic), emptied the trash, cleaned out the ants from one of the cans, sent a ranting email to the RC Staff list, and proceeded to write in this blog. Will likely meet with Winnie later to go over out Physics problem sets, hand them in, then go to class.

And thus goes another rainy day.

Disclaimer

Pablo disapproves, but I love him anyway.

Bun bun bun bun buuuuuunny bun bun bun...

Yeah, I just imagined the theme song to Two and a Half Men (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZJQlddwuvY), replacing the word "men" with "bun".

Yup.

( .. )
(..)(..)

Also, thanks to Josh, I only hear Queen's song Bicycle replacing the word "bicycle" with "big penis". Example:

I want to ride my big penis I want to ride my cock...

Yup.

Bicycle turned into big penis.

Wish my bike did that.

It's ok - I have both at my disposal, just not at the same time.

And now Pablo doubts his support of my blog. But he knows that he respects my decisions and that I'd never do or say anything to harm him. SEE?!

Also, he claims that as long as I maintain that he has a big penis, he won't complain.

...Or maybe he will, but that's just his Jewishness talking.

I'll never complain about his big penis.

...He just gave me an odd smirk. I think it's a combination of flattery and disdain. I prefer to call it love <3
